It tracks where a visitor's mouse travels, and then overlays that on a screenshot. The problem we've found is that often this screen shot is completely different to what the user sees. This is because the screen shot doesn't support things like javascript, Ajax, cookies, POST forms, and user sessions. For my team it has meant chasing imaginary problems and issues that were never there.
