Extremely well written and to the point article.

I'd say that the reset form or clear form button strikes me the most. I have encountered this many times and even canceled online orders a couple of times due to this.

Another mistake is, having multiple sign up forms on one page. People who are used to computers, press the tab key to navigate the form and get to the submit place. In some cases, when there are multiple forms on a page and each form has one or two fields, when we complete the first field and then hit the tab key to get to the next field, the pointer jumps to the next form immediately and not to the next field in the same box. This can result in so many lost leads.

Well, I'd rather click on the red button:
- its heavier visual presence and it follows the corporate colours, which makes the paypal button look like another banner
- the red button says "proceed to secure checkout" which would make me think that Paypal does not offer a secure checkout.
(It helps that Paypal recently came on the news at my place due to many fraude scandals and privacy vulnerabilities so its reputation is pretty decreasing)

Great and fun article. And how about the double wammy...the online response form that has timed out when you go to hit send, thus losing your wonderfully witty and insightful response?

What an amazing piece of uncommon sense. Don't invite people to cancel their order if you don't want them to do it.

I like many others have fallen in to the trap of accepting the advice of designers. I will now be sure to keep a very skeptical eye on any links on a page which go anywhere else than the next step in the sales funnel!

Thanks.

Thanks, great article. I especially like the statement "a link shouldn’t be on a page unless you want at least some of the visitors to click it".

Thanks for the example. I don't know if that button would be effective for the site owner, but I bet it works great for PayPal!

Hi, Heather. Thanks for the kind words. We've seen wins from both entry popups and exit popups—though a lot depends on the way they're executed.

Hi, Ofer. Improving the order process will give you better results than creating a movie explaining how to use it.
